What You Can Do with This Tool
Circle crops are everywhere online. Profile photos on LinkedIn, GitHub, Instagram, Slack, Discord and dozens of other platforms display in a circle. This tool crops your image into a perfect circle so you can see exactly how it will look before uploading.
The area outside the circle becomes transparent, not white. This means you get a PNG file with a round subject and a see-through background. You can place this circular image on any colored surface without a visible square border showing up around it.
For the best circle crop, center your face or subject in the frame and leave some space around the edges. Tight headshots work better than full-body photos because the circular frame is small on most platforms. Eyes should be roughly in the upper third of the circle.
Avatar images for apps, games and forums also use circle crops. If you're designing a team page for your website, consistent circle-cropped headshots of each team member create a clean, organized layout. This tool produces the same crop dimensions every time, so all your circles match.
Frequently Asked Questions
I cropped my photo into a circle but the corners are white instead of transparent. What did I do wrong?
You probably saved it as JPEG. JPEG doesn't support transparency, so the empty corners get filled with white. Our tool always outputs a PNG file for circle crops, which keeps the corners truly transparent.
I need a round profile picture for Discord but when the platform applies its own circular mask, the result looks off. How do I get a good result?
Pre-crop your photo here with a circle, making sure your face is centered and fills most of the frame. When Discord applies its own circular mask on top, it'll align perfectly since your image is already circular. Use at least 500x500 pixels for a sharp result.
My circle-cropped image looks transparent in the browser but shows a white background on my phone. Is the file broken?
The file is fine. Many phone photo gallery apps display transparent PNGs with a white or black background instead of showing the checkerboard. Open it in a design app or set it as your profile picture somewhere. The transparency is there, the viewer app just isn't showing it.
Can I crop to an oval or ellipse instead of a perfect circle?
This tool creates perfect circles only. For ovals or custom shapes, you'd need a more advanced editor like Photopea. Most profile picture use cases call for a circle though, which this handles perfectly.
What resolution should my circle profile picture be?
1000x1000 pixels is a good target for most platforms. Discord and Slack show profile pictures at around 128-256px, but uploading at 1000x1000 keeps it sharp on high-resolution displays and gives the platform good source material to work with.
