What You Can Do with This Tool
There's a real difference between a transparent background and a white background. A white background looks empty, but it's actually filled with white pixels. When you place that image on a colored surface, you'll see a white rectangle around your subject. A transparent background has no pixels at all in those areas.
Use this tool when you already have an image with a visible box around it and want that box gone. Common examples are logos saved on white, stickers with a flat background, product cutouts for a collage and graphics that need to sit on top of another design.
Upload your image and the tool clears the background area, leaving only the subject with transparency. For logos with text, make sure the original has strong contrast between the lettering and the background. Low contrast logos can lose thin strokes during any automatic cutout.
Frequently Asked Questions
I removed the background but there's a white halo around the edges, especially around hair. How do I get rid of it?
That white fringe happens when the original photo had a light background and some of those light pixels bleed into the edge of the cutout. Our tool runs a defringe step to minimize this. For best results, start with a photo that has good contrast between the subject and the background.
Which image formats support transparency? I keep saving as JPEG and it doesn't work.
PNG and WebP support transparency. JPEG does not. It fills transparent areas with a solid color, usually white. Save transparent images as PNG when you need the safest format for design tools and websites.
I need a transparent background for a t-shirt print design. The print shop says the edges need to be really clean or it'll look bad on fabric. Will this work?
It can work, but check the edges before printing. Print exposes rough pixels more than a screen does. Use a high-resolution source image, process it here, then zoom in around hair, text and small details before sending it to the print shop.
I used the magic wand tool in another app and it deleted parts of my subject that were white. Does this tool have that problem?
It is less likely to fail that way because it does not only remove one selected color. The model looks for the subject and background together. A white shirt on a white wall can still be difficult, but it usually has a better chance than a simple color-based selection.
My transparent image looks fine on my computer but prints with a white box around it. Is the file wrong?
The file is probably fine. Some printers and print software don't handle transparency well, especially older ones. Try placing your transparent image onto a white canvas in a design tool first, then flatten the layers and send that to print. This removes the alpha channel and gives the printer a simple image to work with.
